The Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course from the American Heart Association (AHA) is an instructor-led, classroom-based program designed to enhance healthcare providers’ skills in treating pediatric patients in arrest or near-arrest situations. This course aims to improve the quality of care for seriously ill or injured children, ultimately leading to better outcomes.

Course Overview:

Format:

• Instructor-led, classroom-based training using simulated pediatric emergencies.

Focus Areas:

• Systematic Approach to pediatric assessment.
• Basic Life Support techniques.
• PALS Treatment Algorithms.
• Effective Resuscitation Methods.
• Team Dynamics during emergency situations.

Target Audience:

This course is intended for healthcare providers responding to emergencies in infants and children, including:

• Physicians
• Nurses
• Paramedics
• Emergency responders in emergency medicine, intensive care, and critical care units.

Prerequisites:

Current PALS Completion Card:

• Students must present a current PALS completion card to attend the class.

Pre-Course Requirements:

1. Review the PALS Provider Manual:
   • Familiarize yourself with the information in your PALS Provider Manual. Purchase PALS Manual Here.
2. Complete the Precourse Self-Assessment:
   • Successfully complete the Precourse Self-Assessment with a passing score of 70% or higher.

Course Duration:

• Approximately 8 hours.

Certification:

• Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive an American Heart Association PALS Provider Card, valid for two years.
