HeartCode® ACLS – American Heart Association
Course Overview
HeartCode® ACLS is a self-directed, comprehensive eLearning program developed by the American Heart Association (AHA). This course has been updated to reflect the latest 2020 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC.
The program includes:
- Part 1: Uses eSimulation technology to present realistic patient scenarios and interactive lessons. Students will:
- Complete 10 ACLS hospital-based case scenarios.
- Participate in a team dynamics lesson.
- Take a written exam.
- Parts 2: Involve skills practice and testing with an AHA ACLS Instructor or voice-assisted manikin (VAM) system.
Successful completion of Parts 1 and 2 qualifies participants for the AHA ACLS Provider course completion card.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Recognize and manage periarrest conditions that may lead to cardiac arrest or complicate resuscitation outcomes.
- Demonstrate proficiency in BLS care, including prioritizing chest compressions and AED use.
- Manage respiratory arrest.
- Manage cardiac arrest until the termination of resuscitation or transfer of care, including immediate post-cardiac arrest care.
- Initiate early management of acute coronary syndromes and determine appropriate disposition.
- Initiate early management of stroke and determine appropriate disposition.
- Communicate effectively as a member or leader of a resuscitation team, understanding the impact of team dynamics on overall performance.
