AHA - BLS In-Person Skill Session Part 2 (VMFH)

Welcome to the AHA BLS Heartcode Part 2 In-Person Skills Session!

Enhance your life-saving skills with this hands-on American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) training session.

Important Information

  • LifeTek Responsibility: We facilitate Part 2, the in-person skills session of the BLS course.
  • Course Link: Provided by your Education Service Department or VMFH HR Department for completing Part 1 online.

Course Overview

1. BLS Skills Check

  • This session builds on the online AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Course (Part 1).
  • It includes hands-on skills practice and testing under the guidance of an AHA-certified BLS Instructor.

2. Completion Requirements

  • Complete Part 1 online via the link from your VMFH Education Services or HR Department.
  • Attend and pass this in-person skills session within 90 days of completing Part 1.
  • Upon successful completion of both parts, you’ll receive your AHA BLS course completion card.

3. E-Card Issuance

  • Your official AHA BLS e-card will be emailed within 2-3 business days after completing the skills session.

Important Notes

  • Online Course Access: To complete Part 1, contact your Education Services Department at educationservices@chifranciscan.org.
  • Printed Certificate Requirement:
    • Bring your printed completion certificate from the online course to the skills session.

Welcome to the Basic Life Support (BLS) Online Part 1 Course!

We’re excited to guide you through this essential training in life-saving techniques. Prepare to master critical skills to respond confidently in emergencies.

Course Overview

In this course, you'll learn to:

  • Master BLS Techniques: Single-rescuer and team-based BLS for adults, children, and infants.
  • Recognize Emergencies: Learn to identify and respond to life-threatening situations.
  • Perform High-Quality Chest Compressions: Apply effective CPR techniques.
  • Provide Effective Ventilation: Use ventilation techniques to support patients.
  • Use an AED: Learn to operate an Automated External Defibrillator.

  • Skills Practice (Part 2):

  • Certification Assurance:
    • Upon successfully completing both the online course and the in-person skills check, you will receive the same AHA BLS certification awarded to those who complete the full classroom version.

AHA ACLS - Provider Initial Course w/ BLS

ACLS Initial Provider Course with BLS Skills

Course Overview

The Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) course is an advanced, instructor-led program designed to:

  • Emphasize the importance of team dynamics and communication.
  • Address systems of care and post-cardiac-arrest care.
  • Cover airway management and related pharmacology.

Skills are taught through large group sessions, small group learning, and case-based scenarios to enhance practical application and testing.

Course Features

  • Learning Stations: Practice essential skills in simulated clinical scenarios that encourage active participation.
  • Instructor-Led Hands-On Format: Reinforces proficiency with feedback from instructors.
  • Classroom-Based Learning: Ideal for those who prefer group interaction while developing skills.

Target Audience

The ACLS course is intended for healthcare professionals involved in the management of:

  • Cardiopulmonary arrest.
  • Other cardiovascular emergencies in emergency response, medicine, intensive care, or critical care units.

Provider Proficiencies Required

Participants should already be proficient in:

  1. Performing BLS CPR Skills using the 2020 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC.
  2. Reading and interpreting ECGs.
  3. Understanding ACLS drugs.
  4. Conducting BLS and ACLS Surveys.

Note: The course does not teach ECG rhythm interpretation or detailed ACLS pharmacology.

Prerequisites and Preparation

All prerequisites must be completed before attending the class.

    • 2025 AHA ACLS Precourse Assesment and Viedo. (free access provided).
      • Complete the ACLS precourse work, watch the videos, and achieve a minimum score of 70%.

    • 2025 BLS Exam
      • Complete the BLS Exam minimum score of 84%
    • Print and bring the BLS Exam and Pre-Assessment Completion to class.

  4. Own the current edition of the AHA BLS or Heartsaver Student Workbook, Instructor Manual and DVD (or digital eProducts) for your desired teaching discipline (Instructor Material is NOT included) Please go to Purchase your Instructor Materials

Bring these items on the day of the course:

  • Copy of your current BLS and/or Provider Card (front and back)

Monitoring and Mentoring

To complete the course, you must teach a full BLS class under the guidance of a LifeTek Training Center Faculty (TCF) member. with 90 days of the completion of our Instructor Course. This monitoring ensures you’re prepared to deliver high-quality instruction. Upon successful monitoring, you’ll receive your official AHA BLS and/or Instructor Card.

AHA Instructor Initial - ACLS

ACLS Instructor Course Registration

Course Overview

The AHA ACLS Instructor Course prepares qualified provider candidates to teach Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) courses in accordance with the standards of the American Heart Association (AHA).

This course provides the tools and instructional methods needed to effectively teach resuscitation courses, facilitate learning, and evaluate student performance. Participants will learn how to lead courses, conduct skills practice and testing, and ensure students meet AHA course completion requirements.

To better understand the process of becoming an AHA Instructor, please review the Instructor Timeline provided after registration.

Course Format & Duration

Total Time: Approximately 16 Hours

  • 8 Hours – Online, Self-Paced Learning

    • Completion of the AHA ACLS Essentials Online Course

    • A Certificate of Successful Completion must be printed and presented prior to attending the classroom session

    • Note: The ACLS Essentials Online Course is not included in the registration fee

Instructor Candidate Prerequisites

AHA Instructor Initial - PALS

Course Overview:

The AHA PALS Instructor Course equips participants with the skills necessary to effectively teach resuscitation courses.

  • Duration: The course is approximately 16 hours, consisting of:
    • 8 hours of individual online study
    • 8 hours of classroom training and practice

Before attending the classroom portion, participants must complete the PALS Essentials component and print the Certificate of Successful Completion.

AHA Instructor Renewal & Monitoring - BLS/Heartsaver

Welcome to the BLS Instructor Renewal & Monitoring Course!

Thank you for registering with LifeTek! This course is designed to help you maintain your AHA BLS Instructor certification and ensure you are up-to-date on teaching and monitoring requirements. Please review the course details and prerequisites carefully to ensure a smooth renewal process.

Course Structure

This course includes two key components:

  1. Didactic & BLS Skills
    • Duration: Approximately 3.5 hours
  2. BLS/Heartsaver Instructor Monitoring
    • Duration: Approximately 4 hours

Pre-Course Requirements

Before attending the course, complete the following:

  • BLS Provider e-Exam
    • Use the Keycode provided on your registration sheet.
    • Send your completion certificate to nw@lifework.edu or provide a printed copy to the Training Center Faculty (TCF) at the start of the course.

  • Heartsaver Essentails 
    • Use the Keycode provided on your registration sheet. 
    • Send your completion certificate to nw@lifework.edu or provide a printed copy to the Training Center Faculty (TCF) at the start of the course.

Instructor Certification Renewal Guidelines

AHA Instructor Cards are valid for two years and have no grace period if they expire. To renew your certification, the following must be completed before expiration:

  1. Complete the Instructor Essentials Course

    • This is required for each discipline you teach.
    • Purchase and complete the online course if you haven’t already.
    • Print and present the completion certificate to your Instructor or TCF.

  2. Maintain Current Provider Status

    • Option 1: Hold a current provider card.
    • Option 2: Demonstrate exceptional provider skills to a TCF and pass the provider exam.
      • If this route is chosen, the results must be documented on the Instructor/TCF Renewal Checklist.
      • A new provider card is optional but not required.

  3. Earn 4 Instructor Credits Every 2 Years

    • Credits can be earned through:
      • Teaching classroom courses (1 credit per course).
      • Conducting the classroom portion of a blended-learning course (1 credit per 2-hour HeartCode BLS session or each day of Heartsaver skills sessions).
      • Conducting BLS and AED skills testing during a PALS, PEARS, or ACLS course (1 credit per course).
    • Verification: Submit all past rosters through Enrollware before the class.

  4. Attend Required Updates

    • Updates may include new course content, methodologies, or regional/national AHA updates within the last 2 years.

  5. Complete Monitoring Requirements

    • Be monitored while teaching a full class before your instructor status expires.
    • Important: The first monitoring session after the initial instructor course does not count toward this requirement.

  6. Maintain a Quality Score

    • Ensure your Individual Instructor Quality Score by discipline meets the AHA benchmark of 85 or higher for the duration of your expiring card.
    • Exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis with TCF recommendations and TCC approval.

  • No Grace Period: If your instructor certification expires, you must repeat the full instructor course.

🔹 BLS Skills Check:

  • This session follows the completion of the AHA's online BLS Healthcare Provider Course (Part 1).

🔹 Completion Requirements:

  • After completing Part 1 online through the link provided by your Education Services or HR Department, you must successfully complete Part 2 (skills session) within 60 days.
  • Upon successful completion of both the online course and in-person skills check, you will receive your AHA BLS course completion eCard.

🔹 E-Card Issuance:

  • Your AHA BLS eCard will be issued within 2-3 business days after completing both parts.

Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS)

Blended Learning Course

This BLS course is designed for healthcare providers, EMS personnel, and first responders. It includes two parts:
1. Online Coursework and 2. In-Person Skills Evaluation.

What to Expect

📘 Part 1 – Online Course

  • After registering, you’ll receive an email from LifeTek with access to the Red Cross Student Portal.

  • Check your spam/junk/promotions folder if you don’t see it in your inbox.

  • You must complete the online portion before attending your in-person session.

  • If not completed on time, you will need to reschedule and pay a $20 rescheduling fee.

🏥 Part 2 – In-Person Skills Evaluation

  • Bring proof of online course completion with you.

  • Required at check-in to participate in the session.

  • The online course must be completed within 90 days of the in-person evaluation.

  • If not, rescheduling is required with a $20 fee.

🎓 Certification

Your Red Cross BLS Certification will be emailed to you within 72 business hours after successful completion of both parts.
